If you find that fishing should be pleasant, simply and not sweaty work. If you furthermore don't like to break your back and dislike pain in arms and all over this could be something for you.
If the genuine Salmon fisher find this abusing ..... I am sorry ;-)
So, for ordinary shoes (or wellingtons) at the river-bank here the tip :
- Make a 25 cm/9.8 in. snood of fishing line (0.35 mm/0.014 in)
- Wind lead thread in close turns (the "cotton lead reel" you will find in the fly shop)
- Cover with soft plastic tube.
- This creation weight 10 gram/0.35 oz.
- The very short snood for the fly should approximately be 30-35 cm/11.8-13.8 in. (muddy spring water)
If you do this pliant "sink-tip" heavier your fishing will be unenjoyable. And remember to do the snood for the fly short to avoid unpleasant jerk in the fly rod when you are throwing the line. To get the fly down in the deep 10 g/0.35 oz is enough if you cast diagonally up stream and if the river has not too rapid-flowing water.
9' 6-7 Regards (there is other salmons than 22 Kg/48.5 lbs beasts ;-)
