Rödluvan in the snow
 Part 4.  Storuman 2

 December 2007

Rödlluvan (me) in the snow in Storuman.
I just got of the bus in Storuman. There is a star over my head. When it's dark the star gives light. It was snowing a little.
Ove going up the hill to the hotel.
Black Riding Hood. Ove has the same jacket as I, but in black. It started snowing. Ove got white spots on his jacket.
Me and the Wild Man by Hotel Toppen.
Ove in the snow.
The library and a pile of snow.
A shop and 2 Christmas trees.
The hotel room. I liked the red easy chair very much.
We needed some lunch and had  hamburger and deep fried potatoes. I took some garlic sauce to the food.
The staff should decorate the restaurant and the tree. These balls are beautiful.
Here a nice decoration on the wall.
The view from our hotel room. On the left is a big pine near the window.
Tele photo lens picture of the wood by the hotel. We went to bed and had an afternoon nap.
In the evening we had Christmas dinner. The Swedish Christmas table. This is all kind of cold fish
This is all kind of salmon.
The is small Baltic herring.
Egg with shrimps and egg with roe.
All kind of cold sliced meat.
The Christmas ham. The pig head is  looks like a gingerbread cookie. But  it's made of ceramics.
Smoked  meat.
Cumberland sauce: At the left with the fork: Liver paste of wild animal meat, common lever paste and at the right veal brawn. All the food was decorated with vegetables so it was like art.
The dessert: Fresh fruit and fruit salad.
My plate. The bit of hard bread near the fork is called "tunnbröd" in Swedish. You can translate it as thin flat unleavened bread.

This plate contains the first dish you eat, that is the fish. I took smoked salmon, raw spiced salmon, all kind of Baltic small herring and pickles herring. Red beet salad and one boiled potato.

We also can buy soft thin flat unleavened bread. Then you can roll the bread and have something inside the roll. This picture is NOT taken at the hotel. I had this in another restaurant. And put it here for showing how it looks.
Red beet salad and a vegetable salad.
The second dish you take is the cold meat. I took egg end shrimps, smoked reindeer, smoked sheep and boiled ham. A little apple sauce beside the ham and some mustard on the ham.
Slices salami, a sausage named Carpenter sausage. but I don’t know what it is, I never tasted it. At the right: Smoked moose and smoke reindeer sausage.
Slices of cold reindeer end moose sausage. I only took very little of the warm dishes. Only one meatball, a little Janssons Frestelse (Janssons Temptation) and one little prince sausage. There is so much food on the table so you only can choose the food you like most. You should be too full to take of everything. The food in the front that looks like a triangle looks like a kind of French cheese. But he triangle food is salmon paste, the green in the paste is chopped dill.
This is lutfisk = boiled ling previously soaked in lye. In former times they dried this fish, then it's called stockfish. This is both Swedish and Norwegian. The fish does not taste so much. You you need to have a good sauce to it. I never eat it.

Read more about this here.

Dessert on Ove’s plate. I never took this, I took the fruit. Cheese, 2 candies one with chocolate and the other candy is called for "knäck" in Swedish. A kind of toffee with chopped nuts. You make (boil) these yourself. I never eat toffee I am afraid to get problems with my teeth. It's expensive to go to the dentist. The big cookie is a "struva". One struva several struvor.
Gingerbread cookies in the shape of a heart are common in Sweden at Christmas. Here you also can see the bigger cookies named "struvor". It's a kind of pastry the you deep-fry
This  big pot contains glögg. Mule wine with spices and sugar. In the bowl are raisin and chopped almond. You put these in the hot glögg and eat these with a spoon after it is soaked of the glögg. After it you drink the glögg. The Santa beside the glögg is cute.
I did not take a pictures of the restaurant this year. But it was decorated the same as last year. I took this picture 2006 in the afternoon when there not were guests yet. Then there were no small candle light on the tables yet. They light the candles in the evening when all the guests are there.
I took this picture at 2 o'clock P.M. from our hotel room. Then it was getting dark. The road is the Blue Road. That road goes to the mountains. On the other side the road goes to Umeå. The big Christmas trees with the lamps were beautiful. You can see a little of the mountains in the background. The hotel is on a hill.
It started snowing and snowed the whole nigth. The pines became beautiful with sparkling silver spots on the snow.
When we awoke there was a lot of snow. At night I heard the snow snowploughs and tractors outside.
A nice tomte (Santa) in the window.
I took this picture in the year 2006 from the window of the restaurant. Then there was not as much snow as this year. And that day the weather was clear so you can see the mountains in the distance. And the water was frozen.
I took the same picture from the window of the restaurant 2007. But now it was snowing heavy. And there is more snow on the roofs.
This looks like an ice cream :)
Icicle on the hotel.
View from the hotel.
Me in the snow by the hotel. There is a snowflake in front of my face :-)
Happy me in the snow in Storuman.
Parking lot with the hotel.
The Blue road west to the mountains.
Taken from a window at the restaurant. Down below behind the piles of snow you see the Blue Road that goes to Lycksele and later to Umeå.
Flags in the snow by the hotel.
The wild man in the snow and he was snowed in.
It's good to have a big hood in this kind of weather.
Ove drawing his suitcase in the heavy snow.
Ove almost snowed in. But he did not put on his hood. His hood is on his back under the straps of his backpacking. There was a big snowflake in front of the camera that was hiding Ove's face.
Me at the Christmas market in Storuman.
I have a red suitcase but now it was a white suitcase.
It was heavy to draw the suitcase. The wheels were not made for snow. The suitcase was working as a snow plough in the deep snow. :-)
Icicles on the library.
A kick sleigh.
Ove with his suitcase. Children were playing in the piles of snow.
Ove in the snow in front of the bus station.
Icicle on the bus station.
Snow on my hood :-)
The bus that should take me home was coming. I was happy to see the bus.
The blurry person at the left is Ove with the suitcases. It was rather dark now and difficult to take pictures.
The road home. The road is named: "The Blue road." And it's real blue here. The snowed in Wildman said goodbye to me. And he want me to come back next year.
I enjoyed the woods from the bus window
The woods were gorgeous. But it went dark outside. Most people were sleeping in the bus. But you can light a little lamp with your own seat and read. It was real cosy in the bus.
Now it was daken and then I only could see the plough pins on the side the road, glistening in the head lights of the bus. After this I slept too, like the others did.

This picture edited in Photo shop, so you can see how it looks. It was gorgeous in real.
