Rödluvan in the snow
Part 25

Reindeer 6.
At Gammlia, open air museum
2009b

2009-03-03. I met the reindeer Sixten again. This time at the open air museum Gammlia.

Thanks to a man who works at the Swedish TV who took the picture with my camera.

2009-03-03. Sixten looked beautiful. I loved him :)
2009-03-03. Sixten was coming to me.
2009-03-03. He came to near the camera :-)
2009-03-03. I said: "Hi Sixten, I feel so happy to see you again".
2009-03-03. The Sámi woman gave the children some reindeer moss (lichen) so they could feed Sixten. Of course Sixten liked this very much.
2009-03-03. Yummy!
2009-03-03. Can I get more.
Sixten looked so funny and made everyone laughing. And I was laughing so much and hardly could stop laughing. Ha, ha, ha!
2009-03-03. Sixten got more food and was pet by almost everyone.

2009-03-03. This are the Sami Anna-Marja and Sophia who own he reindeer. Here they are making and selling souvas.

They have a business for tourist to show reindeer and the Sámi culture. It is named Skajrie.
2009-03-03. Souvas is smoked and salted reindeer meat. They mix it in a big wok pan.
2009-03-03. Here they thaw the reindeer meet. Later they mix it with the vegetables. They had pita bread to the food. The bread had to be warmed and thawed too. Because they had the  ingredients outdoors in the frost.
2009-03-03. My souvas. They opened the bread so it became like a bag. And there was a paper bag around it too. There is lingon berry sauce on the food. You could get a plastic fork and then eat it while standing. You cannot sit outside with a table and eat. That should be too cold. But you could go inside the kĺta and sit in the reindeer rug and eat if you wanted this.

2009-03-03. This is the reindeer Blixten. He was resting. A child  was petting him.

Note: I cut the face of the child in the picture because you may not show children without asking their parents. And I think it's not appropriate to show children on the net.
2009-03-03. Blixten had a good time lying and resting in the snow. Reindeer like cold climate. They can't survive in warm climate.
2009-03-03. Now Blixten was standing up.
2009-03-03. The reindeer Silver was resting behind a fence. He was not used to people and nobody was allowed to go to him.
2009-03-03. Blixten eating.
2009-03-03. Still eating.
2009-03-03. Silver. Taken with the telephoto lens.
2009-03-03. Blixten resting again.
2009-03-03. The kĺta.
2009-03-03. Here you could sit on a reindeer rug.
2009-03-03. Sixten is 16 years old. He is a tame reindeer. He lives on the yard with the Sámi family. But in summer he is with the other reindeer in the mountains because it should be too warm for him to be on the yard.
2009-03-03. Blixten.
2009-03-03. Making boiled coffee on the open fire.
2009-03-03. Lingon berry cake.
2009-03-03. My hot coffee and lingon berry cake.

2009-03-03. Anna- Marja takes a coffee break.

Note: I had the permission to put up pictures of Anna Marja and Sophia in this website.
2009-03-03. Two kĺsor = wooden Sámi cups
2009-03-03. Sámi boots made of reindeer skin, painted reindeer horn and a wooden box. The white on the box is not painted. It's snow that had frozen on the box. And that made the box real nice.
2009-03-03. The spoons and forks in a wooden handicraft bowl.
2009-03-03. Sámi handicraft on the lit of the jar, and a bag made of reindeer skin. At the right a bit of the wooden box with the lingon berry cake.
2009-03-03. This bread is called "Ghakku". It's a traditional Sámi bread.
2009-03-03. They baked it as a round flat "cake" and cut it in four bits. I had already eaten a bit so there are only three left. It tasted delicious.
2009-03-03. Blixten is only 2 years old and still not used with people. but he has to learn to be used to people.
2009-03-03. Sxten was resting.

2009-03-03. This woman was selling reindeer meat. I bought smoked reindeer meat. I bought it and it tasted delicious.

NOTE: I got the permission to put up the picture of the woman  who is selling the meat.

2009-03-03. The woman who was selling the reindeer meat also was selling Sámi handicraft I bought this kĺsa that is real Sámi handicraft. I was very happy that I bought it. This was such a nice memory of the Sámi.

I bought the key ring with the Sámi flag at the museum.
2009-03-03. I went in into the museum and saw the wonderful Sámi art and the photos about “The Eight Seasons”.

From the window at the museum I could see the reindeer Sixten. It looked like Sixten was looking at me when I took a picture through the window.

2009-03-03. Blixten looking at me.

Back to 2009-03-03. I had to go home now. I said goodbye to Sixten and hugged him.
2009-03-03. Sixten was looking at me like he wanted to say. "Goodbye to you". I could not forget that cute  face.
