Rödluvan in the snow
Part 22

A sleigh ride with the dog team
2009-12-19

They had a winter festival at campus. There I met a team of dogs who were pulling the sleigh.

I could not come on a picture together with the dogs. I had nobody with me to take the picture. And the dogs were too wild and only wanted to run. That's why I copied myself in this picture.

He, he, a little Red Riding Hood and a pack of BIG wolves :-D

I heard how the dogs were barking and howling like real wolves. Some dogs had to rest in the truck when the others took place in the team.
I think this wolf (dog) was so sweet.

They were giving a howling concert special for me, Rödluvan :-D
They did howl like wolves.

We could get a sleigh ride for only 20 crowns. They took 3 people on the sleigh and there were 10 dogs drawing the sleigh. (you don't see all 10 here) The man who was running the dogs was standing on the back of the sleigh.

When people got on and off the sleigh, the dogs went are barking and howling very high. They were so eager to run. But first when the man told them to go, they did run. Then they were running very fast.

Now they were permitted to run. They are not barking while they are running. Then you only can hear the dogs breath.

We got a rather long ride and the dogs were running fast

WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

The first couple (leaders) in the team.
The second couple in the team.
The third couple in the team.
Look how they are breathing. They have their long tongue hanging out of their mouth.
The man is watching the dogs while they have to wait for the next person to ride the sleigh.
Here they go again.

This was the first time in my life I rode a dog sleigh ride. It was so exciting! It’s not so easy to get such a sleigh ride. You need a lot of snow and need an event there tourists can ride the dog sleigh.

Go, go, go, go, go!
Here you can see how the dogs are connected on the ropes.
I had to hurry to take the pictures because they passed by fast.
"Stop!".
Here you can see how fast they are running. The snow is blowing up. I felt the wind then I was in the sleigh.
You sit on the dog sleigh on a reindeer rug and then you will NOT freeze. But of course you need warm clothes, gloves and a cap and hood because the wind is cold when the sleigh is going fast.
Here they had to stop again. The man has his foot on the break.
Are you ready?
Go! Here the man has taken his foot off the break.
I did not know what kind of dogs they had. They use to have Huskies for this. But here all dogs looked different.
My face is as red as my hood because of the cold. :) I felt so happy that I was pulled on a sleigh by a "pack of wolves" (dogs) :-)
