Rödluvan in the snow
Part 17.  Reindeer 3
2007-03-07

My new friend, the reindeer Kasper.

The Polar Bread  bakery had put advertising about their bread in the restaurant  there I use to eat, then they had put up 2 stuffed reindeer.

It was interesting to see how their horn looked. But I was day dreaming about to see real reindeer.

At March 7 I met real reindeer! The came with the Sami people at campus.

The squirrel was sitting on the ground in the wood when I left work.  The squirrel said:  "When are you going?" I said. I will go and look at the reindeer. They will come to the pond at campus”.

It was snowing heavy. The white spots on the picture is snow. There were two Swedish flags and one Sami flag because of this Sami day.

There was a tent and there the Sami were selling food. They had  "souvas" that is smoked and fried reindeer meat with a kind of mountain yoghurt sauce. They fried the meat in a big pan.

I went curious for the food and took a little plate. There was  salad and  bread to the food. It tasted delicious.

I met my husband Ove at lunch. He has the same kind of jakcet as I, but his jacket is black with a big black hood.

I was eating lunch with Ove in the restaurant. But today I only took  little food because I had already eaten the Sami food in the tent. This is an older picture.

After lunch I went to the reindeer and met the Reindeer Rudolf. I said: "Will you pull me on the sleigh, I am as red as Santa Claus. :-)"

The second reindeer was Kasper.  He should pull the sleigh.

The third reindeer was Emil. He had been at Campus  before. But this year he had no permission to pull the sledge because he had pain in a leg. The reindeer Studs was not here this year.

The Sami man put Kasper on the sledge.

Now Kasper was ready to pull the sledge on the ice on the pond. The white spots is snow because it was still snowing.

The tourist pet Kasper and I put off me gloves to pet Kasper too. And now I know how it fells to pet a reindeer. The fur is thick and rough. And Kasper’s fur felt cold. Because iut was cold outside.

I put on her gloves again and the other were petting with the gloves on too.

It still was snowing and I arranged my hood so I shold be protected for the show. Kasper said. "Do you want to take a sleigh ride with me?"  And of course I wanted to do this.

I took place on the sledge and was waving to a friend who should take pictures of me, and waving to the people who were looking at the reindeer.

Now I was riding away on the sledge. There is a reindeer skin rug on the sledge that kept the passengers warm. The Sami was leading the reindeer.

Still snowing heavy. He, he I'm looks like a fly agaric toadstool, red with white spots.

The Sami said to me that he could go faster with the reindeer if I liked it. I said: "No, if you not go so fast I can enjoy this ride a little  longer ."

Wheeee! :-)

Oh, what a wonderful ride. And the Sami man was so skilled to lead the reindeer.

White spotted me and white spotted Kasper in the snow.

Hi everybody here we come!

He, he, a red Santa and the reindeer. :-)

Oh, look such a funny tent ! No, it's  me in her big hood getting off the sledge :-) LOL

When I had got off the sledge, the Sami was taking care of the reindeer.

Here Emil was going with Kasper. He walked in front of Kasper.

And Kasper followed the Sami and Emil.

Here a reindeer had to poo.

The faeces of a reindeer looks like this. It are small, rather hard balls.

Another picture of Rudolf. He was a little reticent.

Kasper got food. The reindeer are eating lichen.

Here I'm on a picture with the Sami Ola Rokkas. Both got white spots on the picture because of the snow.

Ola Rokkas had a beautiful Sami ornament. There is a reindeer head in the ornament.

Here the Sami are showing how they can throw a lasso on a pole with reindeer horn. They are skilled to do this because they do this in their work on real reindeer.

Here you can se the Sami tent called "kåta" in Swedish.

The fire in the tent was wonderful, we could go in there and warm us. And sit on the ground on a reindeer skin if we wanted this.

The top of the inside of the tent looks like this. The hole is for the fire that is burning in the middle of the tent. This is a modern tent with aluminium pins. In former times the tent was made of skin and the pins were of wood.

I had to go home. It still was snowing. Soon I should be White Riding Hood.  :-) The lighter part on the left picture  is steam that come from the mouth of the photographer. ( Ove took this picture) In winter you often can see steam coming out of peoples mouth.

I slept well after this wonderful day and had a wonderful dream about my friend Kasper.  :-)
