Rödluvan and the ducks in the cold
Part 5
16 -20 February 2009

I went to my duck friends again. But it was BITTER cold. I was freezing on my hands.
2009-02-16. But the ducks needed food and I needed to see the ducks. Then I felt happy.
2009-02-16. This female was real hungry
2009-02-16. Now she was standing on my boots :-)
2009-02-16. Another female came for food.
2009-02-16. Most of the water in the pond was frozen and the ducks were crowded in the water.
2009-02-17. Some of them were in the creek.
2009-02-17. Here you can see how little open water was left for the poor ducks.
2009-02-17. The male Quack-quack had ice pearls on his feathers.
2009-02-17. He was asking me for food.
2009-02-17. The female who I called for Quackely was also hungry. I wanted to feed them well so they will be strong if they later will have ducklings.
2009-02-17. Also the ducks in the water got bread. But they were crowded together to get the piece of bread.
2009-02-17. A duck flying back to the water.
2009-02-17. Quackely got more bread. She also had ice pearls on her feathers. And a big ice pearl on her forehead.
2009-02-17. She was guzzling down the food
2009-02-17. Here you can see how cold it is. All the ducks have ice on their feathers. When they went on land they put their legs under their feathers.
2009-02-17. Quack-quack and  Quackely were a real nice couple. Quack-quack had his legs under his feathers. Quackely was walking to him.
2009-02-17. Quack-quack resting. His ice pearls were glistening in the sunlight.
2009-02-17. I felt sorry for all these ducks who had to be the cold.
2009-02-17. Here some of the ducks are standing on the ice.
2009-02-17. These are swimming. It's warmer in the water as on land.
2009-02-17. Here you can see there is not much open water left.
2009-02-18. Crowded.
2009-02-18. Quackely begging for food.
2009-02-18. Quackely is trying to chase away another male.
2009-02-18. GO AWAY!
2009-02-18. She finally got rid of him and could reach Quack-quack again.
2009-02-18. Again the duck were crowded on the place there I dropped the food.
2009-02-18. Quack-quack-quack-quack-quack-quack-quack-quack-quack-quack-quack-quack-quack-quack-quack-quack-quack-quack-quack-quack-quack-quack-quack!
2009-02-18. Quackely said:."Be quiet a while".
2009-02-18. But he only was quiet when he had food in his beak.
2009-02-18. Quackely was resting.
2009-02-18. But then she saw the piece of bread in my hand.
2009-02-18. And she took it very fast.
2009-02-18. It was hard for the ducks to walk in the deep snow. One duck is sitting with his legs under the feathers.
2009-02-18. Icy ducks.
2009-02-18. And an icy pond.
2009-02-18. I'm feeding with my left hand and taking the pictures with my right hand.
2009-02-18. This duck was not afraid to eat out of my hand.
2009-02-18. A kind woman use to buy chicken food to the ducks. They like it very much
2009-02-18. She put out the chicken food in a long stripe, so many ducks could eat of it.
2009-02-20. I put 3 pieces of bread on the bridge for Quack-quack and Quackely
2009-02-20. It started to snow. The small white balls on the picture are snowflakes.
2009-02-20. Quack-quack was flying away and Quackely looked after him.
2009-02-20. Now Quack-quack was down in the crowd.
2009-02-20. Quackely had the bread for herself.
2009-02-20. But Quack-quack came back.
2009-02-20. Here you only can see the beak of Quack-quack at the left.
2009-02-20. Quack-quack and Quackely were arguing.
2009-02-20. Then Quackely was biting Quack-quack.
2009-02-20.  Here Quack-quack got some bread.
2009-02-20. Polka dot Quack-quack.
2009-02-20. Quack-quack was talking to me and did not see there was still a little bit bread left.
2009-02-20. Quackely is eating bread.
2009-02-20. Polka dot Quack-quack got more bread.
2009-02-20. Quack-quack and Quackely were talking together.
2009-02-20. Still talking together.
2009-02-20. There were many ducks in the pond this winter.
2009-02-20. "He, he, he, he, he, he, he, he!
- "Quack-quack what are you laughing for"?
2009-02-20. Quack-quack is laughing because there is a hair on my hood! :-)
