October 6th 1998 our Prime Minister Göran Persson (as a result of the election in
September 20 1998) reformed the Swedish Government. Mr Sundström and Mrs Anna Lindh has now other
ministerial posts. New on the stage is Björn Rosengren, Ministry
of Industry and Commerce (that new Ministry will probably also deal with Energy matters) and Kjell Larsson our
new Minister of Environment.
Mr Rosengren has for the past three years been County Governor in Norrbotten (up north in Sweden). Spending time in that wonderful region with three of our virgin rivers (Kalix älv, Pite älv and Torne älv) could perhaps guarantee his feeling for the unspoiled Nature ?

Dear Lennart, E98/9700
Thank you for your e-mail.
The Parliamentary decision in principle not to exploit our four unspoiled
rivers remain. I can speak on behalf of the entire government when I say that we assure
that we will continue the work to preserve the four rivers
for future generations
Best Regards
Kjell Larsson
PS. The fourth unspoiled river is Vindelälven The Vindel River.
The Minister of Environment Kjell Larsson has commissioned the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency to investigate if Kalix-, Pite- and/or Vindelälven (The Vindel river) could be suggested to the World Heritage List of Unesco. ( Press release, the Ministry of Environment March 19 1999 [in Swedish] ) | 1996 |
The Swedish government has recently been reformed (15th March 1996). We have a new Prime Minister ;
Göran Persson and a new Minister of Energy ; Anders Sundström. Whether they
will save our National-rivers or not is at this very moment doubtful.
Anders home address is close to one of our nice rivers (The Pite älv) and he has studied Business Administration at our dept , (what effect that might have in this issue is unclear).
So, if you want to know how they will act (save or not save)
Anna Lindh, the Minister of Environment : "It is out of the question to make use of our four National-rivers for power production" (June 3 1996 in the debate on question raised in parliament) | 1995 |
In Sweden we have four unspoiled rivers which by Act of the Swedish Parliament
have been saved for coming Generations. The Kalix River, the Piteå River,
the Torneå River and the Vindel River.
One of these National-rivers , "The Vindel River". Sweden´s Prime Minister Ingvar Carlsson and the Minister of Energy Jörgen Andersson have unfortunately included hydroelectric power stations as an alternative in the Swedish debate about future energy supply. (November 15 1995) If your opinion is that the four rivers should remain virgin, please write to Sweden´s Prime Minister Ingvar Carlsson. |
